Do we need to lose body fat in order to look leaner?

Time is tight but it simply comes down to priorities.

Harsh reality incoming, you need to lose weight!
No amount of hanging leg raises are are giving you abs.
No amount of tricep extensions are getting rid of your bingo wings.
No amount of press ups are getting rid of your moobs.
You get the idea.
Getting lean is simply dropping fat.
Dropping fat is simply dropping weight.
Yeah there’s ways to improve the process but at the end of the day if you want to ‘get lean’ you need to drop weight!
My client Neil is a perfect example of just that!
He dropped 11kg in just 12 weeks!!
He was slim to begin with but had very little definition. By tightening up his diet and planning out his training he progressed at an incredible rate.
He dropped weight weekly by simply doing what was required and as the weeks passed and the weight dropped off, the definition shone through!
He couldn’t believe the transformation he achieved by simply stripping off more weight and finished 2023 in his best shape ever!

We’ve all got that item of clothing.
The jeans that you can’t get up.
The shirt that you can’t fasten.
The dress that’s too tight.
Now just imagine for a moment, imagine getting the jeans up and fastened, buttoning the shirt up comfortably, slipping into that dress with ease…
Imagine how that would make you feel!
Just like this incredible lady did.
She couldn’t believe how bad things had got until it hit her in the face when she tried to pull these jeans up.
It was all she needed to make a change.
And make a change she did!!
We cleaned up her eating habits, allowing for the odd social of course! We made a training plan that worked for her, one that she could stick to! We made sure she stayed accountable and felt supported!
Fast forward 5 months, including Christmas might I add, and look at her!!! She looks incredible!
Not only are those jeans up, they’re up comfortably and she looks and feels great!
An exciting year coming for this lady as we continue through the phases, a little more cutting, then we’ll back it off and pump the training up, before another cut to close the year.
Three kids and she’s gonna bring her best body yet this year!

Yo-yo dieter? Read on…
This client has tried them all!!
His weight has been up and down for years with no real progress!
I get why you try them… you’re desperate for change, desperate for progress, desperate for a result.
In reality, you need to do the basics and be really fucking consistent!!
Yes you will all progress at different rates but if you stay consistent with a steady training plan and consistent with a sensible nutrition plan, you will make progress.
Obviously there’s ways to increase the speed at which you progress, ways to make it easier too, but it all comes back to consistency!
I’ve been training this gent for almost a year to the day and his progress has been insane.
We’re about to back things off slightly and head into a little maintenance phase to allow his body to rest and reset before we push hard again into the summer, achieving his best physique ever!
I have no doubt in my mind he will nail this next phase too, purely because he is consistent in everything I ask!

Sounds crazy but hear me out…
Sustainable is quite often slow progress, which is amazing long term.
For many of us though, it’s getting started that’s the issue. Who doesn’t love some quick results to get them motivated?
I know I do!
Go all in, give it everything, nail your food and train more intensely than you ever intended.
Give it 4 weeks and watch the results fly in!
Then back it off a little, make it sustainable, something that works with your life, around your family, around your job.
It’s much easier to stay motivated and push forwards when you’ve had some nice quick wins to get you started!

I finished 2023 in my best condition yet. 2024 has started much slower than I would have liked for various reasons.
I’m betting on myself though, I’m going in better than ever in every single area of my life and nothings stopping me.

Here’s why…
You’re gonna burnout pretty quickly.
Workouts start to nosedive, the frequency of your sessions drops and the quality of your sessions drops even further.
Tiredness starts creeping in.
When tiredness creeps in bad food choices aren’t usually far behind!
The weekends are first to go and then the odd week night and before you know it your calorie deficit is none existent!
It’s been 3 weeks and your big January plans are no more!
Try this instead…
Have a plan. Something steady. Something manageable. Stick to it consistently, week in, week out. Each week make sure your training is progressive. Make sure there’s room for some of life’s little treats.
Stick to it for 6 months, you will be unrecognisable.

EAT THE MICROWAVE MEAL!
You’ve had a long day, the kids have run you ragged, you simply have no energy for cooking.
You’ve had a shitty day at work and had to stay late, if you cook you’re getting no time to wind down.
Maybe they simply fit your hectic schedule.
Microwave meals are made to look like the devil by so many people these days, especially on social media.
Are they ideal? 9 times out of 10 no of course not.
Are they the best option in situations that arise for all of us every single week? Absolutely!
I’d always recommend you to keep a few in the freezer for days just like these. You can pick low cal, high protein options and they can be ready in minutes.
You can keep within cals and macros really easily too. Worst case scenario they take you slightly over your cals for the day, guess what, you’re still in your deficit for the week!
Don’t feel at all bad about having one, they’re a way better option than so many alternatives!

Make them more effective? Keep a track of what you’re lifting in each one, then the next time you do it try and do an extra rep on each set or lift a little more weight each exercise!

Absolutely any of these time frames are amazing in so many ways but for me the best part… they get you started!
For some it’s a perfect amount of time and they’ll look incredible.
Others will make amazing progress in that time.
The common issue they share is that that’s where so many people stop!
They don’t see the program as a starting point, they see it as a deadline!

My first little lady continued to grow into the most amazing girl and my second little lady joined the team and followed right in her amazing sisters footsteps! High on my list for 2024 is much more time spent with them! 🖤
Naomi managed to put up with me for another year! She’s got her own exciting business plans for 2024 and I can’t wait to see that grow! Maybe we’ll get married one day! (Worlds longest engagement) 😆
The gym, my team of ladies and the clients have continued to surpass all expectations, we raise the bar and they keep jumping over it with ease! They smashed our first ever client group photoshoot and they continue to deliver again and again and again. I cannot wait to see them continue that into 2024! Big things coming!!
Physically I finally hit my own goals, a 20 week cut completing my year and giving me my leanest physique yet! A little mini cut in January to get rid of the Christmas bulk and then I’ll be heading into a real bulk to add as much muscle tissue as I can!!
Exciting times ahead for everyone who’s joining me for the ride!!

Discipline.
You won’t always be motivated to do what’s required, you can however be disciplined enough to do it and see it through. It simply comes down to what you want now and what you want most.
Some people can do it alone.
Others seek the support, motivation and accountability of a coach.
Every single one of my clients at some point has hit a hurdle, some have even hit a wall. Some people would give up in these moments. It’s my job to make sure they don’t.
I keep them accountable to their own goals. I support them through uncertainty and help them work both around and through little hiccups. I motivate them to keep going, even when everything is telling them not to.
This photoshoot group have all done incredible. They didn’t all take part in the shoot but every single one of them that started has done amazing and I couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve achieved.

NAILED IT!!
What an incredible morning we had on Saturday for our first ever client group photoshoot!
We’ve been coaching them for the last 90 days to get in great shape for Christmas and I’m sure you’ll agree they’ve all delivered!
It’s been tough at times and we’ve overcome obstacles but they’ve all put the training in, controlled their nutrition and pushed out of their comfort zones! (Alongside some amazing coaching)
Huge credit to them all for stepping in front of the camera!
The exciting part is we’re doing it all again in January!!

The progress continues for this amazing lady!
She’s still going and she’s still smashing through goal after goal!!
Breaking targets she thought were unachievable!
Why did she think they were unachievable? Previous attempts following faddy diets and poor training plans left her feeling like she couldn’t get past a certain point.
Each time she quickly rebounded back to where she started.
She’s a mega busy superstar working for our NHS so we needed a plan that would work both her training and nutrition around that.
Shift work always makes things harder but with a plan built specifically around her rota, some motivation and a whole load of accountability, she’s nailed it.

We all love weight loss, fat loss, muscle building and any other physique results.
One of my favourites though is confidence!

I’ve been training a lovely lady for 6 months, her changes are incredible in every single area, 35lbs down, fitness through the roof, insane strength increase and so much more.
The other day was my favourite though, she walked in the gym in her gym leggings and a CROPPED T-SHIRT!
She’s gone from the standard big baggy black T-shirt and random leggings to a new gym outfit and now a cropped T-shirt!
Instantly it screamed body confidence! She’ll know this is about her but she also knows how proud we are of her!!

A true testament to being the hardest worker in the room, Liv would give anyone a run for their money!
Feeling uncomfortable both in and out of clothes and just feeling low in general, Liv reached out to me to reignite her love for training and nutrition.
We made a plan in line with her goals and aligned the timescale to her amazing holiday plans.
She trained hard, she ate well and she was consistent! Weekend socials were still fairly frequent, we just made sensible choices and adapted the days around these events.
